Harvard Business Review: Employers should use hospital price transparency data to negotiate better rates

Harvard Business Review has published important advice for employers – hospital price transparency data is out there in the wild. It shows (or it should show, if the hospital is fully compliant) which health plans and networks are getting the best deals at that hospital. When AllBetter is helping our clients design a better health plan, the first place we start is those hospital price files. When we are negotiating direct contracts for employers with hospitals, we also use the files. The hospitals don’t make it easy – many times the files are hidden on their website, or so incomplete as to be unusable. But we expect compliance to grow over time, and the data is already becoming increasingly important in our work. Employers – is your benefits advisor taking advantage of this tool?
